Dear Parents

Thank you once again for your kind support and generous donations towards the Cake Sale held on Friday, 29 May. The children were certainly excited to go shopping and they were spoilt for choice. To Kathy and her team of helpers, thank you for organizing everything behind the scenes and setting up the Cake Sale. We sold most of the delicious eats and still had a variety left at the end of the day which was donated to a children’s home, Marsh Memorial. An amount of R4 765 was raised.

The children had fun when the Petting Zoo visited our school with a few farm animals. They handled and fed the chickens, guinea pigs and rabbits while others brushed the sheep’s wool and fed the goat. For many this was a first experience and so a very memorable one. When we have visits like these at school, we often send photographs to the local newspaper. We are hoping that the photos will be published.

Important notices

Punctuality

We are aware that with the onset of winter, many parents may experience delays in traffic. However, it is the parent’s responsibility to alter their travel arrangements accordingly. Please note the starting times of morning ring for your child’s class. It is a vital part of their day to be present, but if late they may not enter and disrupt the rest of the class.

Aftercare starts at 13:00 when the gates are locked and children may then only be collected from 14:00. The school closes promptly at 18:00.

We trust that parents will be co-operative and adhere to these times.

Electronic Statements

The school has implemented the electronic system for forwarding statements. From now onwards, parents will only receive their statement via email. Should you not have received your June statement, kindly contact Cheryl at bursar@monterey.org.za

Recycling

We will be recycling the scrap paper in the classrooms and depositing it in the bins at the NHHS entrance. NHHS has recycling bins just inside the entrance gates, to the left. Monterey parents may deposit goods for recycling into their bins. These bins are emptied weekly.

Applications for 2016

To our current MG parents, please remember to inform the School as soon as possible if your child has been offered a place at another school or confirm that you would like to remain at Monterey for Grade R in 2016. This information must reach the office as soon as possible please.

Congratulations to the current Grade R parents if you have confirmed a place for your child for Grade 1 at a Primary School. Good luck to those who are still awaiting a response.

Dad’s Day

We invite dads to join us for Dad’s Day on Saturday 20 June, 9:00-11:00. Further details will follow.

Lost property

If your child has lost anything it will be deposited in the blue lost property bench between the Penguin and Dolphin classes. Please mark all your child’s belongings. At the end of term, anything left unclaimed will be donated to charity

The cold weather has certainly set in so please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately and has a set of spare clothing as well.

We appeal to parents to keep children at home when they are not well. They are only to return once they are no longer infectious and healthy enough to cope with the school day.

‘’ Do not educate your child to be rich. Educate him to be happy so when he grows up, he’ll know the value of things and not the price. ‘’
